Call for Accountability into Alleged Criminal Activities By RSO Members in Rohingya Refugee Camps

Concerns have been raised by members of the Rohingya community regarding the alleged activities of certain individuals associated with the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO). Community members are calling upon the Government of Bangladesh, law enforcement agencies, humanitarian organizations, the United Nations, and international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into these allegations and to ensure accountability if any wrongdoing by RSO members within the camps is confirmed.

According to reports and claims circulating within the refugee camps, an individual identified as Muhammad Nur, age 28, FCN 650652 reportedly residing in Camp 4, Block 4, has been accused of involvement in serious criminal activities, including the alleged rape of a woman within the camp. These allegations include the reported abuse of women, intimidation of camp residents, and involvement in acts that have caused fear and insecurity among members of the Rohingya community. Community members are requesting that these allegations be investigated by the appropriate authorities in accordance with the law.

The concerns expressed by residents extend beyond one individual. Some members of the Rohingya community allege that individuals claiming to represent or work on behalf of Rohingya interests have instead been involved in activities that do not serve the welfare of the community. Critics argue that despite decades of claiming to advocate for Rohingya rights, some groups have failed to produce meaningful progress toward the safety, dignity, and long-term future of Rohingya refugees. Community members further allege that certain members of the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) have violated the dignity of Rohingya women through acts of abuse and by allegedly sharing related content on social media, which, if true, would constitute a grave violation of human rights.

Community members have further alleged that some individuals connected to the RSO may be involved in criminal networks operating within and around the camps. These allegations include claims of narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, extortion, intimidation, rape, and other unlawful activities. Residents have expressed concern that such activities not only harm the victims directly but also damage the reputation of the wider Rohingya community.

Particularly troubling are allegations that some members of the RSO have used their influence, power, or organizational connections to threaten vulnerable camp residents. According to these claims, women, children, and other vulnerable groups may be exposed to various forms of exploitation and abuse. Such allegations are extremely serious and, if proven true, would constitute grave violations of human rights and criminal law.

Many Rohingya residents emphasize that the actions of certain RSO members are causing fear and disruption among people who simply wish to live in safety and dignity until a durable solution to their displacement can be achieved. They fear that the actions of individuals allegedly involved in criminal activities may negatively affect the reputation, security, and future prospects of the entire Rohingya community.

Mr. Muhammad Ayub, Commander-in-Chief of the Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO), serious allegations have been raised regarding the conduct of certain members of your organization. Members of the community claim that some individuals associated with the RSO have victimized Rohingya people and contributed to fear and insecurity within the camps. One of your members has been accused of abusing and forcibly raping women within the camps. These allegations represent a serious concern for the Rohingya community and require urgent attention. It is imperative that these claims be addressed transparently and that anyone found responsible for wrongdoing be held accountable under the law.

As a result, community members are urging the relevant authorities to strengthen oversight within the camps, investigate all credible allegations, and take appropriate legal action where evidence supports prosecution. They also call upon humanitarian organizations and community leaders to work together to prevent violence, criminality, exploitation, and abuse.

Furthermore, Rohingya elders, religious leaders, youth representatives, and civil society members are encouraged to promote awareness about the dangers of criminal networks and to support lawful and peaceful solutions to community challenges. Community cooperation with law enforcement and humanitarian agencies can help improve security and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

The Rohingya community has suffered decades of displacement, persecution, and hardship. For this reason, many residents believe it is essential that anyone who exploits the community for personal gain, whether through criminal activities, intimidation, or abuse of power, be held accountable under the law. At the same time, they stress the importance of ensuring that all investigations are conducted fairly, professionally, and based on credible evidence.

Concerned members of the Rohingya community are calling for a transparent and independent investigation into allegations of criminal activity within the refugee camps. They urge the Government of Bangladesh, the United Nations, humanitarian organizations, and relevant authorities to examine these concerns carefully, protect victims, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that justice is served wherever evidence supports legal action. Such efforts are essential to maintaining peace, security, and dignity for all Rohingya refugees living in the camps and to ensuring that any individual or group found responsible for criminal activity is held accountable under the law.
