A Rohingya Woman, Minara Begum, was Shot by RSO/ARO Members Under the Command of RSO Commanders

According to local reports, a Rohingya woman identified as Minara Begum, a mother of five children residing in Block H-37 of Balukhali-1 Camp, was reportedly shot by alleged RSO/ARO members during an attempted abduction to her husband , MD Hares incident in the Rohingya refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 8:30 PM when alleged armed members of the RSO forcefully entered the family’s shelter and attempted to abduct her husband, Md. Hares. Local sources stated that the incident took place in an area under the responsibility of Head Majhi Sadiq and Block Majhi Hafiz Ahmed.

Witnesses said that when Minara Begum tried to prevent the abduction and rescue her husband, the alleged armed men opened fire on her, causing panic and fear throughout the area.

According to handwritten notes and local sources, Minara Begum was the mother of five children, while her husband, Md. Hares, was described as a former ARSA member. The notes also mentioned the name Ibrahim, allegedly identified as an RSO commander or coordinator, and referred to the involvement of ARO members.

Additional information from local sources suggests that after the shooting, Minara Begum was taken for medical treatment, reportedly through MSF services in Cox’s Bazar, and was later transferred to Chattogram for further treatment. Sources alleged that she eventually died from her injuries. The notes also contained references to the attempted abduction of her husband and indicated a time of approximately 3:30 AM, although the exact sequence of events remains unclear.

Refugees in the camp have appealed to the Government of Bangladesh and relevant authorities for immediate intervention to stop the increasing violence, threats, and armed activities inside the camps so that ordinary refugees can live safely.

Local Rohingya residents further stated that many Rohingya families have been devastated by the activities of armed groups in the camps. According to residents, children have been separated from their parents, families have been torn apart, and women have become victims of serious crimes.

The affected refugees have called on international human rights organizations and Bangladeshi authorities to take urgent and effective measures to restore peace, security, and stability in the refugee camps.
