P.M Anwar: Rohingya Refugees Must Follow Malaysian Laws or Face Legal Consequences

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized that Rohingya refugees living in Malaysia are required to respect and comply with the country’s laws and regulations. He warned that authorities will take appropriate action against anyone found violating the law.

While reaffirming Malaysia’s commitment to humanitarian principles, P.M Anwar stated that refugees are still subject to the nation’s legal framework, including regulations related to business operations and the use of premises. He noted that enforcement measures would be implemented whenever violations occur.

Speaking to reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Al-Hidayah in Sentul, Anwar said that issues involving law enforcement and the Rohingya community were recently discussed during a Cabinet meeting with Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The discussion focused on ensuring that legal actions are applied fairly and consistently. He also urged local councils and state authorities to strengthen oversight and address any misuse of properties or other unlawful activities.

Regarding the wider Rohingya crisis, P.M Anwar: Rohingya Refugees Must Follow Malaysian Laws or Face Legal Consequences acknowledged that repatriation remains challenging due to the ongoing situation in Myanmar and the absence of a clear pathway for safe return or resettlement in third countries. He added that Malaysia continues to engage with Myanmar’s leadership on humanitarian concerns, including civilian safety and access to assistance.Anwar further called on Malaysians to maintain humanitarian values and allow the relevant authorities to manage the situation, cautioning the public against taking independent action.
