KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman held a private one-on-one meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Perdana Putra complex here this morning.

The closed-door talks commenced at 9:30 a.m. local time on the fifth floor of the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, marking the first high-level engagement between the two leaders since Mr. Rahman assumed office.

Following the tête-à-tête, a delegation-level bilateral meeting is scheduled to commence, with both prime ministers leading their respective teams. The Bangladesh delegation includes Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, PM’s Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, Overseas Employment Adviser Mahdi Amin, and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, among other senior officials.

According to Foreign Secretary Siam, the formal discussions will centre on broadening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, with particular emphasis on trade and investment expansion, energy partnerships, the halal economy, workforce recruitment and deployment, semiconductor industry collaboration, agriculture, education, and people-to-people connectivity.

Following the bilateral dialogue, the two prime ministers will address the media at a joint press conference. Subsequently, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, along with his spouse Dr. Zubaida Rahman and accompanying delegation members, will attend a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at his official residence.

Prime Minister Rahman arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of his Malaysian counterpart. The trip underscores the deepening ties between the two nations and is expected to yield several cooperative agreements aimed at strengthening economic and diplomatic relations.
